BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir alleged that India has always conducted its activities to keep Bangladesh under control. He said, not only Farakka Dam or Ganga water. India has always neglected to share the water of 154 identical rivers of Bangladesh.
Mirza Fakhrul addressed a discussion meeting on the occasion of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani’s Long March Day against Farakka Dam at the National Press Club on Thursday.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul criticized India’s position on the issue of water distribution of common rivers. At the same time, he complained, ‘The Awami League government has failed in signing the Teesta water distribution agreement. Because it is a completely knee-jerk government. They are failing to stand up for the people. They are very vulnerable to India.’
Regarding the movement of various parties including BNP, Mirza Fakhrul said, ‘We have to move forward with our own goals to protect democracy and change the government. No one else will come and do these things.’
Mirza Fakhrul mentioned that there is no alternative way ahead. To protect Bangladesh, this government should be removed regardless of party affiliation. People of Bangladesh have to stand on their own feet to claim their rights.
